If you’re looking to receive unprompted smiles and congratulations from strangers in Yosemite, just wear a wedding dress. Tourists walking by will offer advice in their native tongue, cars will honk, and little girls will dream of being you when they grow up. And that’s just walking down a trail.
Of course if you go to a crowded viewpoint like Tunnel View you may find yourself suddenly becoming the main attraction, as Shannon and Jason did here. Tourists rushed off their busses and crowded around to catch a glimpse and share a moment with a couple on their wedding day. In a flash everyone had cameras.
It’s a totally strange thing – one moment everyone gathered here is starting off at the vista, the next they are lining up as if a bear is doing a tap dance right in front of them. Anyplace else it just wouldn’t make sense, but with a Yosemite wedding it does. It’s as if this was a scheduled ranger program, a Yosemite Wedding for Tourists. My personal theory is that these well-wishers are a bit jealous that they didn’t get married in Yosemite. But really, can you blame them for feeling that way?
